No More Doughnuts

We’re looking for 2 male actors with lived experience of being LGBTQ+ for No More Doughnuts by Lee Knight, a new short comedy featuring in the Shorts festival of new writing at the White Bear Theatre.

Synopsis

Paul and John are hoping to spice things up in their long term relationship. A threesome is on the cards, but as they discuss who might be a good idea to invite over, John is keen to make clear that access to their emotional connection isn’t part of the deal.

Characters

Paul

  • 20s/30s
  • Male

Gregarious, impulsive, excitable.

Paul drives forward the suggestion of opening up the sex in their relationship, and brings to the table a potential candidate for the activity. 

John

  • 20s/30s
  • Male
  • Any accent
  • Any ethnicity

Sensitive, reserved, a thinker.

John is keen but less proactive in the planning of the proposed liaison, and is keen to ensure his emotional connection with Paul is off limits.

Commitment & Pay:

This is an unpaid opportunity as part of a festival of new short plays. For clarity no one in the creative team or cast is receiving payment for their work on the play.

Actors must be available for performances at the following dates/times:

  • 15th June 2021 at 2:15pm & 7:30pm
  • Have reasonable availability in the lead up to the performances to rehearse for a couple of sessions. The dates for these sessions will be mutually agreed between the actors and director.

The self tape will be viewed by the Director and Writer. You do not need to be off-book for the self tape, we just want to get a sense of your interpretation of the text and your performance style.

Deadline

  • Submissions deadline is the 16th May at midnight.
  • A short zoom audition/chat will be held with shortlisted actors between 17th & 28th May
  • We will let all submissions know whether or not they have been shortlisted w/c 17th May

Further Information

Writer – Lee Knight

Lee is an Actor & Writer. He is currently filming Hamlet the movie playing the part of Rosencrantz alongside Ian Mckellen. He will then go on to do the stage production later this year and after that, The Cherry Orchard. He will also be playing Francis in feature film The Last Letter From Your Lover releasing in cinemas and on Netflix this summer and he also plays Stevens in upcoming BBC drama The North Water.

As a Writer, his comedy pilot The Gym reached the semi finals for BBC Comedy Writer’s Room 2019. He is currently writing an audio comedy titled The Divorce and is also currently writing his first short film. His monologue The Art of Suffering has recently been produced and recorded for the Lost Souls podcast. No More Doughnuts will be his debut piece for stage.

Director – Alex Jackson

Alex is a director and producer originally from Exeter based in London. He is a Junior Associate at the King’s Head Theatre. He is one half of All That Productions who produce the original new musical theatre podcast All That Scratch with The Other Palace. Alex is also Co-Festival Director at Exeter Fringe Festival.
